Basic Needs Specialist

mxt@ucsb.edu

My name is Mina Toxtle, and I am a dedicated advocate for my community. I am a first-generation graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, where I earned my Bachelor of Science in Psychological and Brain Sciences with a minor in Applied Psychology. Growing up in South Central, I witnessed significant food, housing, and financial hardships, which fueled my passion for supporting those in need.

For the past two years, I have worked as a CalFresh Advocate and Basic Needs Peer Advisor, helping my peers navigate CalFresh and connecting them with essential resources to meet their basic needs. In my new role as a Basic Needs Specialist, I am excited to continue my commitment to supporting UCSB students and community members.

During my free time, I enjoy reading, exploring fashion, and I’ve recently taken up cooking as a hobby. Fun fact: I'm learning how to DJ!
