Basic Needs Tech Support Program
The Basic Needs Technology Program provides currently enrolled UCSB students in a degree-seeking program with a few tech resources to support them in their academic journey. In order for students to be considered for any resources through the Basic Needs Technology Program, they will need to submit a Basic Needs Tech Request form. Once submitted, request forms are reviewed by our tech team. Students can expect a response about their request within 2-3 business days.
Resources available include:
Short-term loaner devices are chromebook devices. The maximum loan period for laptop devices is 30 days. Borrowers must sign a borrower agreement form when picking up loaner device. This resource is available to all UCSB undergraduate and graduate students.
Eligibility criteria includes:
- being currently enrolled at least half time (6 units or more) in the current quarter

must be pursuing a bachelor's degree or enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program at UCSB.
The Graduate Student of Association of UCSB offers 10 laptops for free rental by graduate students whose own laptops have been damaged or are otherwise unusable. The program aims to help bridge the financial gap for students who need to purchase a new laptop. In conjunction with Basic Needs the GSA provides five Mac units and five PC/Dell units for short-term loan. Once the loan period is 10 weeks or through the quarter (whichever occurs first), with the possibility of renewal for an additional 10 weeks. This program is available to all currently enrolled graduate students at UCSB.
Eligibility criteria includes:
- being currently enrolled at least half time (4 units or more) in the current quarter
- must be pursuing or enrolled in a master's or Ph.D. program at UCSB (or must remain affiliated with their graduate department).
Loaner iPads are provided with styluses, brought to you by Associated Students. This resource is only available to currently enrolled UCSB undergraduate students. No more than one ipad can be granted per student. The maximum loan period for a loaner ipad is one quarter in length.

The Technology Subsidy Grant is a one-time grant of up to $500 to assist students with the purchase or repair of a laptop, desktop, or tablet. Please note that phones, smartwatches, and other tech accessories will not be considered.

Computer Areas Computers and Printing
Makerspace
The UCSB Makerspace offer access to high-quality fabrication tools, in-depth instruction, and peer support on rapid prototyping and iterative design processes.
The Makerspace is open to UCSB students, faculty, and staff as of January 2024. Available equipment includes 3D printers, laser cutter, vinyl cutter, sewing machines, and more.
Library Laptop Loans
Available at the Services Desk in the UCSB Library. Laptops are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The maximum loan period is 4 hours.
Please read the checkout policy thoroughly before checking out a laptop. You must return the laptop to the Services Desk by the due date & time to avoid fines.
Library Technology Lending
The UCSB Library has a variety of items available at the Services Desk for checkout to UCSB students, faculty, and staff.
Lending technology includes charging cables, calculators, headphones, presentation clickers and more. Most items have a maximum loan period of 4 hours.

Apple Authorized Service Provider Which Can Provide Both in and Out-of-warranty Repairs for Apple Product in-store.
Additionally, We Can Perform Back-ups, Data Transfers, Virus Removal and Hardware Upgrades on Both Pc and Apple Computers.
Sustainable Technology Repair Initiative (STRI)

The Sustainable Technology Repair Initiative (STRI) strives to help students become more familiar with their digital devices and increase their digital literacy through educational programming and peer-to-peer knowledge sharing opportunities.
- We can help students develop and hone their knowledge of the digital devices they use every day for school, work, and beyond.
- The next time the functionality of your computer, laptop, or other digital device begins to deteriorate, there is a resource you can turn to if you want to learn about the issue you’re facing and be confident about the options you have to fix your device.
Additional Tech Resources
Offers extra Mac chargers, PC chargers, scientific calculators, and iClickers. Cost per item depends on item and length of borrowing period.

A.S. Tech Rentals
The Library has three GauchoPrint printers, UCSB’s student-funded printing solution that allows students to use their 200 pages of print credit at any GauchoPrint printer. The printers also allow users to print from laptops and mobile devices.
Visit gauchoprint.ucsb.edu.
Students, faculty, and staff: Use your UCSB NetID and password to log in to your GauchoPrint account. Printing is 10 cents per sheet of paper used. GauchoPrint is only available in black-and-white.
